Marginal Tax Rate in New Brunswick for 2026

Your marginal tax rate in New Brunswick is the tax you pay on the next dollar of taxable income you earn. It is not the rate on all of your income. Canada uses a progressive system, so each bracket applies only to the slice of income that falls inside it. This guide uses the 2026 tax year (the return you file in spring 2027) and combines federal and New Brunswick tax.

The capital gains column shows the tax on the full gain (50% of a gain is taxable). The dividend columns show the tax on the actual dividend you receive, not the grossed-up amount. Eligible dividends are grossed up by 38% and non-eligible dividends by 15%. A negative rate means the dividend tax credit is larger than the tax on that slice of income. All rates are rounded and approximate.

NEW:  Marginal Tax Rate in British Columbia (BC): A Comprehensive Guide for 2026

Between $181,440 and $258,482 the federal basic personal amount shrinks from $16,452 to $14,829. That adds about 0.29 percentage points to the federal marginal rate in that range, and the table includes it.

Understanding the Different Income Types

  • Other income includes employment income, self-employment income, interest, rental income and most pensions.
  • Capital gains come from selling investments or property that gained value. Half of the gain is taxable.
  • Eligible dividends are usually paid by public corporations and some private ones. They receive a larger dividend tax credit.
  • Non-eligible dividends usually come from small private corporations. They receive a smaller credit.

The federal amount is $16,452 for most people, a credit of about $2,303 at 14%.

What These Tables Do Not Include

The rates above are for taxable income only. They leave out CPP and EI contributions, other credits and deductions, clawbacks of benefits such as the Canada Child Benefit, and any provincial credits or premiums not mentioned above. Your own marginal rate can differ. Use them as a guide, not as a tax calculation.

Calculating Your Taxable Income

Taxable income is your total income minus deductions such as RRSP contributions, union dues and child care expenses. Find your bracket in the table using that number, not your gross pay.

Conclusion

Knowing your marginal rate helps you judge what an extra dollar of income, or a deduction such as an RRSP contribution, is really worth in New Brunswick. Check the figures against the current CRA and provincial pages before you file.
